Kia Kaha Kāhu!
Rowandale School
Room 20
Term 1, 2013
Tena Koutou Katoa.
Welcome to all the Parents
and Caregivers of our learning space the Kia Kaha Kāhu! (Room 20). This translated means ‘Be
strong, Get stuck in, Keep going Hawks!’ Māori knew older hawks as kāhu-kōrako, a
reference to their pale feathers. As hawks grow older, they lose the dark
plumage of youth, and some very old birds appear almost grey. That is our aim,
to be the wise grey hawks of Rowandale School.
My name is Letitia
Voss and I am truly excited and privileged to be able to facilitate the
learning in Kia Kaha Kāhu this
year. Over the past few days we have been creating our
learning brand, developing our treaty and setting the expectations for our
classroom. I believe this collaborative approach creates a positive and caring
environment that fosters learning and inclusivity.
Uniform: It was really awesome seeing the students
come back to school in their uniforms.
Please make sure that each uniform item is named so your child can take
care of their belongings.
Swimming: Our swimming days are on Monday, Wednesday
and Thursday every week. Please ensure
your child brings their togs and towel in a named plastic bag on these days.
Topic: We are investigating Taonga this year. We
are endeavouring to create a depth of knowledge within life, culture and
families about treasure. This topic will follow where the students lead. I am
very excited to get into this very exciting topic!
Homework: For homework,
the children will have a reading book each night and basic facts sheets. It
would be great if you could work with your child in these areas.
If you have any concerns
regarding your child, or have any questions or comments, please be in contact.
I look forward to working along side you and your child this year.
Naku Noa,
Letitia Voss
